Notes - Mr. Robert R. "Bob" Smith, 66, of Xenia, Illinois, died at 4:02 p.m. on Thursday, July 18, 2013, at St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham, Illinois.
Bob was born February 6, 1947, to Maxwell and Catherine (Adams) Smith. On February 8, 1969, Bob married Mabel Carpenter at the Pleasant Grove Christian Church in Geff, IL.
He graduated from Flora High School in 1965. After graduation, Bob received training and certification in Mechanics. As an Army Veteran, Bob proudly served our country during the Vietnam War.
For 23 years, Bob worked at World Color. Upon the closing of World Color, he went to work on the seismic crew for the Ceja Corporation. For the past 10 years, Bob had been working at Minwax Sherman Williams.
In addition to his many jobs, Bob ran his family farm where he raised livestock and tended to the daily farm duties. Bob was a true outdoorsman, spending much time hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed oil painting and was an avid reader.
Most of all, Bob loved his family. Bob was a member of Coon Creek Ridge Riders and Flora American Legion Post #14.
Bob is survived by his wife, Mabel; daughters, Tammy Smith Wyman, Robbin Smith, son, Gale Smith, five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; six sisters, Venita Wartsbaugh, Ammie Bonham, Margaret Simpson, Lois Simpson, Dorothy Rigg, Ellen Coble, two brothers, Mike Smith and Curt Smith. Bob is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, John David Smith, Don Smith, Bill Smith, and a sister, Neva Hanna.
Funeral services were held at Byrd & Kohn Funeral Home in Flora.
Interment followed the ceremony in Onstott Cemetery in Xenia, IL, with Military Honors.
