    • Enlisted and entered active service on October 8, 1942 at the Navy Recruiting Station, Saint Louis, Missouri. Completed boot camp at the Naval Construction Training Center, Naval Operating Base, Norfolk, Virginia; Advanced 'Seabee' Training at Camp Perry, Williamsburg, Virginia; and then served with the following Naval Construction Battalions: 67th, 68th, and 19th. Honorably discharged as a Carpenter's Mate First Class on November 21, 1945 at the Naval Personnel Separation Center, Great Lakes, Illinois. Earned the Good Conduct Medal, American Campaign Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, and the WWII Victory Medal.
