- In the autumn of the year 1852, on the second day of November, as the harvests and fruits were being gathered in and hearts were turned toward God, in that season of special gratitude, Isaac and Christian Burkholder gathered into their hearts and home at Martinsburg, Ohio, a little brown- eyed girl, whom they named Anna Belle; and we today meet in deep gratitude for the blessing of the fruits of that life, which, after a sojourn here of 75 years, was transferred to the golden shores of eternity on May 14, 1928.She was one of eight children born to this preacher's home, and the sixth to follow her parents into the home beyond. One brother, J.J. Burkholder of Decatur, and one sister, Mrs Sadie B. Smith of Kankakee, remain. On October 7, 1873, she was united in marriage with Quintes Burnell and during these 55 years has ever been a faithful wife and a genuine and sacred inspiration to her family. She gave to the world eight children, four boys and four girls. Six of these three sons and three daughters, together with her husband, twelve grandchildren and one great grandchild, remain and in veriest truth rise up and call her blessed. At 14, she publicly dedicated herself to the service of God and united with the church in her home community, and for these three score years and more rejoiced in that service expressing it through a life of beautiful unselfish serving of these with whom she lived. For 38 years, she has served as a member of the Mt. Gilead Christian Church. Many of these years, she taught in the Sunday school, serving in this capacity all but one of the various classes of the school; and many today are the better because of her contribution to their lives throught the Sunday school. She had an unfailing faith, an undying zeal, an unfaltering perserverance. She lived "not to be ministered unto, but to minister", and she has heard a voice from heaven, gracious and familiar of her, saying "Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord", and now she rests from her labors and her works do follow her. The funeral service was conducted at Mt. Gilead, her home church, by her pastor, Rev. S. Price, assisted by her son, Rue Burnell.
