- NOTES FROM STEPHEN GREGORY "STEVE" LUKE (1947-2002):
Raised in Campbell County Tenn. he later moved to McMinn County in Cherokee territory and thence to Union County Ga. still in Cherokee territory. In 1835 he joined the Georgia Militia to help keep order amongst the Pin Indians, that is those Cherokee who refused to remove out west (to what is now Ok). In 1839 the militia began rounding up the Cherokee to begin the removal - the infamous Trail of Tears -
