Selected for the Medical Department, completed basic training and qualified in the military occupational specialty of Longshoreman (271). Departed the U.S. on July 20, 1942 bound for the Asiatic-Pacific Theater of Operations. Assigned to and served with the 311th General Hospital in the New Guinea, Papuan and Luzon Campaigns. Earned a Unit Citation and The Good Conduct Medal, American Campaign Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal with 3 bronze battle stars, WWII Victory Medal and the Philippine Liberation Medal with 1 bronze battle star. Honorably discharged as a Private First Class on December 3, 1945 at the Separation Center, Jefferson Barracks, Missouri.
