    • Dee L. Sledge, 55 of Middle Rd. in Texico a successful souther Illinois oil well contractor, was dead on arrival at 2:30 a.m. today at Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon, Illinois.

      Mr. Sledge was a partner with his brother Walter in the Sledge Drilling Company. He was born in Jefferson County on Feb.14,1922,the son of George Emery and Mattie (Riley) Sledge.

      He was married on September 15, 1945 at the Dix,Illinois Methodist Church, to Betty Rose Tate who survives.
      Mr. Sledge was a Navy veteran of World War II, and was a deacon and Sunday school teacher at the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church.

      Funeral services will be held Friday at 2:p.m. at the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, with the Reverend Ross Partridge officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

      Friends may call at the Osborn Funeral Home in Dix on Thursday after 6:p.m.

      Should friends desire the family has requested that contributions be made in memory of Mr. Sledge to the building fund of the Pleasant Hill Church, contributions will be accepted at the funeral home.

      In addition to his wife Betty, Mr. Sledge is survived by two sons David L. Sledge, Texico and Steven L. Sledge of Dix. Two daughters, Nancy Lynn Sledge and Laura Lee Sledge both at home. One grand-daughter and two grand-sons.
      Two brothers Walter Ray Sledge, of Flora, and Bob Sledge of Mt. Vernon. He was preceded in death by his parents.
