  Kathryn Crackel, 94, of Effingham, formerly of Clay City, passed away Wednesday, December 2, 2015 at the her home in Effingham. Kathryn was born February 10, 1921 in Clay City, the daughter of Shannon and Rosa Holman. She married Ray Crackel on April 20, 1943 in St. Charles, Missouri. He preceded her in death on June 11, 2012. Kathryn graduated from Clay City High School and became a beautician. She worked in Clay City until her husband, Ray, returned from WWII. Kathryn was active in community events throughout her life. She was a member of the Clay City United Methodist Church and the Order of the Eastern Star. She is survived by her daughter, Susan Anselowitz of Seattle, WA; son, David Crackel of Effingham, IL; son, Richard Crackel and wife Johanna of Mattoon, IL; four grandchildren and four great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers, Leon and William Holman, and one sister, Ferne Barnhart.
