    • Janet "Sue" Chaffin, 80, of Clay City, IL, passed away on Friday, January 10, 2025 at her home.

      Sue was born on September 18, 1944 in Olney, IL, the daughter of Charles and Mary Elizabeth (Swift) Chaffin.

      She lived an extraordinary life working as an airline stewardess in the golden era of airline travel. A thirty-year career with American Airlines Sue retired with a lifetime of stories and one-of-a-kind experiences. She served many celebrities during her career. She had great stories of Waylon Jennings and Willie Nelson. In her retirement Sue found joy in helping her brother Herbie with his cattle farm. Taking care of people and animals was her specialty. Sue was a woman who never found her worth in a man or by the number of children she had. Although none were biological, Sue had lots of kids, they were her nieces and nephews. Sue will be remembered for having a life that was well lived.

      Sue is survived by her sister, June Jones, sisters-in-law, Carmen Chaffin and Sandra Chaffin Morris, and several nieces and nephews.

      She was preceded in death by her parents, Herb and Mary Chaffin and Anna Cox; brothers, Chuck Chaffin and Herbie Chaffin; Brother-in-law, Steven Jones; niece, Cindy Magness; great nephews Jared Bailey and Lucas Heckler.

      There will be a graveside service held for Sue at 2:00 PM on Friday, January 17, 2025 at Clay City Cemetery.

      Kistler-Patterson Funeral Home in Clay City has been entrusted with arrangements.
