Assigned to and fought with Company I, 329th Infantry Regiment, 83rd 'Thunderbolt' Infantry Division in Ardennes Campaign. Wounded by enemy action on January 9, 1945 in Luxembourg, Belgium. Removed from the battlefield for treatment and returned to the U.S. on April 23, 1945 for convalescence. Honorably discharged as a Private with a certificate of disability on June 2, 1945 at Kennedy General Hospital, Memphis, Tennessee. Earned the Purple Heart Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge, American Campaign Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with 1 bronze battle star and the WWII Victory Medal.

On Veterans' Day, 2005, the city of Flora, Illinois dedicated a memorial to all known Clay County, Illinois World War II Veterans.
Located on the south side of the city library, this is a copy of the brochure honoring that event.

Notes - Milton Weidner, age 70 of Clay City, died at 7:08 a.m. August 23, in the Clay County Hospital.
Services were held August 25 at the Hosselton, Bookhout, Engelmeier Funeral Home in Clay City, with burial in the Dillman Cemetery in Sailor Springs.
Mr. Weidner was born November 6, 1918, the son of Joseph and Philibena Schnautz Weidner. He married Marie Patridge on July 20, 1940 and she survives. He was a retired truck driver for J.W. Rudy.
Besides his wife, survivors include three daughters, Beverly Dunahee of Grayville, Rose Heathcock, White House, TN., and Carolyn Weidner of Clay City; four sons, Paul, Robert, and Donnie of Clay City and Kenneth of Sailor Springs; four sisters, Bonita Stanley, Olney, Audrey Barcley of Salem, Rae Dean Gill of Mt. Vernon, and Louise Rosenleib of Casper, WY; two brothers, Fletcher Weidner of Jonesville, MI and Danny Weidner of Olney, nineteen grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and one sister.
