Notes |
- Mr. Gullick was a retired educator who began his career as a teacher and coach in Tower Hill. He then taught English at Mascoutah High School. Moving into school administration, he became the principal of William Holliday Elementary School in the Pontiac-Holliday School District in Fairview Heights. After nine years, he moved to Lovington, where he was the superintendent of the Lovington Unit District 303. Mr. Gullick served as superintendent of schools later for Mt. Olive, Marissa and retired from the Sesser-Valier Unit District. He was dedicated to doing whatever he could to help children learn all they might to become the best they could be.
Mr. Gullick graduated in 1956 from Crete-Monee High School in Crete, earned a B.A. degree in English and History from McKendree College, a M.S. in Education Administration from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, and a Specialist Degree from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville.
Over the years, Mr. Gullick was a member of many professional organizations and served as an officer in most. He was also a member of Kiwanis and earned the designation of distinguished president. Serving as an elected library board member in Lovington, Mt. Olive and Marissa, it gave him great joy because he had always been an avid reader. He was planning to run for another term on the Marissa Area District Library Board this spring. He had served as their president for 15 years. He also served on the Shawnee Library System Board of Directory, which made books and information loans between libraries over most of southern Illinois and often statewide and also served on the board of directors of the Robinett Family Association.
Mr. Gullick was a member of United Methodist Church from his early youth. He served on the official board and on several committees and on the board of trustees. He also enjoyed the fellowship of United Methodist Men. William was a life member of the National Rifle Association and an enthusiastic hunter.
