On Veterans' Day, 2005, the city of Flora, Illinois dedicated a memorial to all known Clay County, Illinois World War II Veterans.
Located on the south side of the city library, this is a copy of the brochure honoring that event.

Funeral services for Edward Atkisson, 88, of Belville, TX were held Tuesday, April 11, 2006 from St. Mary's Episcopal Church in Bellville, TX with Rev. Bob Gribble officiating. Interment was at Oak Knoll Cemetery in Bellville.
Edward Eugene Atkisson was born March 13, 1918 in Clay City, Illinois. Born to Maggie Fry and Eugene V. Atkisson. Graduated from Clay County Schools. Veteran of World War II - Served aboard the U.S.S. Bunker Hill CV 17. Graduated from Texas University in Austin with a degree in Mechanical Engineering.
Married Jeanette Batla Sept. 5, 1948 in Bellville, Texas. Retired from Reed Rock Bit Co. (Baker Hughes) in 1982 after thirty-one years as Special Field Engineering Representative, living in Houston, TX, Mt. Vernon, IL, Midland, TX and Oklahoma City, OK.
Member of St. Mary's Episcopal Church, Bellville, where he served on the Vestry and as Head Usher. Life member of B.P.O.E. No. 979 Brenham, V.F.W. Post 6522 Bellville, U.S.S. Bunker Hill Aircraft Carrier Association, Bellville General Hospital Auxiliary.

He is survived by his wife Jeanette of Bellville, Son John Atkinson of Oklahoma City, OK and sister Helen Price of West Liberty, Illinois.
