Mark Steven Schnautz, 71, of Olney, Illinois, passed away on Saturday, November 25, 2023 at Deaconess Gateway Hospital in Newburgh, Indiana.
Mark was born August 25, 1952 in Olney, the son of Lubert and Erba (Fields) Schnautz. He married Teresa Giese on August 27, 1988 at Zion United Methodist Church in West Salem, Illinois, and she survives.
Mark was a member of the Elks Lodge #926, the VFW #4226 and American Legion #30 in Olney, as well as the Albion Moose Lodge and the Hog Group out of Effingham. Mark was also a member of the Blue Knights Houston, TX and Effingham, IL Chapters. He worked at his family's business, Schnautz Sawmill in Clay City at a young age, where he built character as a young man. He joined the Navy right out of Highschool, where he served on the USS America. He later worked at the Clay County Sherriff's Department as a Deputy for a few years. Mark later went into over the road trucking, and he drove for Marathon Oil in Robinson. Upon retiring from there, Mark went to work at the Richland Courthouse as a security guard, which he loved.
Mark was a dedicated Harley rider and was extremely proud of his two bikes. Mark was a loving and dedicated husband, brother, and uncle. He was a true gentleman. He was thoughtful and polite to everyone he met. Mark was always the comedian in any situation. He was a big history buff, especially when it came to WWII history. He loved old music, Paul Harvey, pizza, candy and Pepsi. Mark will be dearly missed by all those that knew him.
Mark is survived by his wife, Teresa; favorite sister, Sue Michels; brothers Paul D. Schnautz and Larry Lee (Rebecca) Schnautz; sisters-in-law, Brenda (Gilbert) Barnhart, Sandy Halterman, and Marsha Wiseman; brothers-in-law, Steve (Rita) Giese and John (Alicia) Giese. He was a loving uncle to several nieces and nephews as well.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Ray Dean Schnautz; sister-in-law, Darla Akins; brothers-in-law, Bill "Stick" Giese, Dean Wiseman, and Jerry Michels; one nephew, Philip Schnautz and one great nephew, Gage French.
A visitation will be held for friends and family on Wednesday, November 29, 2023, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Kistler-Patterson Funeral Home in Olney.
A funeral service will be held for Mark at 10:00 AM on Thursday, November 30, 2023 at Kistler-Patterson Funeral Home in Olney.
Interment will follow the service at the Moravian Cemetery in West Salem, Illinois. Full Military Rites will be performed at the graveside.
