Notes - Charles Lee Scammahorn passed away March 13, 2013 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon, IL.
He was born on April 17, 1926 in Clay City, Illinois, the son of Samuel J. and Dollie (Burkitt) Scammahorn.
Charles was best known for the stories he told and the way that he told them.
Charles served in the U.S. Army Air Force for four years and was an active member of the VFW in Clay City for 15 years. He was also an avid Braves fan.
He is survived by his daughter, Colene Wood; Grandson, Casey Wood; Granddaughter, Kassie Wood; Great Granddaughter, Harper Wood; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters and three brothers.
Burial was in Smith Cemetery with Summers-Kistler Funeral Home in charge.
