Notes - Janice Kaye DeHart, 72, of Clay City, died at 9:45 a.m. Monday, March 24, 2014, at St. Mary's Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon of respiratory failure after a long battle with COPD and congestive heart failure.
Ms. DeHart was born in Richland County on October 13, 1941, to Elmo Glen Dehart and Lorena Mae (Abbott) Dehart. She resided most of her life in the Clay County area.
She graduated Clay City High School in 1959 and attended Clay City First Community Baptist Church. She had been employed at Sparton Manufacturing, Inc., Ames Handle Factory, The Arbors Center, Buehler's Buy Low, and Addus Healthcare. She had an associate's degree in social services and loved helping people.
Mom never won the Publishers Clearing House Sweepstakes, but she sure did try, she loved to read, play bingo, garden, animals, and to wash the windows to watch it snow. Voted most talkative four years running in high school, she kept up that reputation up until she passed away. She loved to talk on the phone after she became too ill to visit people's homes personally.
The family would like to thank the many caregivers who have taken care of Janice over the years, but they are too numerous to list individually. Dr. Ashok Kumar, Clay County Hospital, and Clay County Health Department have always done what they could to try to keep Janice healthy over the years. She always had the staff laughing and they kept her spirits up.
She is survived by her daughter, Dedra Kaye DeHart; brother and sister-in-law, John and Julie Dehart; nephews, Jason and Heath Dehart, and their wives Erin and Addie Dehart; and two great-nephews, Corbin and Gavin Dehart. She leaves behind special friends Meanie and Sam Medernach, Rosa Owen, Elizabeth Kesterson, and Margie Holland, and many, many friends and relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Mother hated funerals and visitations, but she will be cremated and a celebration of life ceremony will be held at a later date at Clay City First Community Baptist Church where all who knew her can gather and share stories.
In lieu of flowers and tokens for the family, please donate to CCARS Fur a Good PAWS, the Clay County Food Pantry, or the charitable donation of your choice.
The best memorial you can make is to always remember her with a smile and a laugh, for that's how she would have liked to be remembered.
