    • Melvin J. Sharp, 82, of Clay City, IL died April 9, 1997, at Flora Pavilion Nursing Center.

      He was born Februray 9, 1915 in Clay County, the son of Benjamin and Anna Grege Sharp. He married Luella Mitchell March 23, 1936, in Fairfield.

      He is survived by his wife; sons, Marvin and Ray Dean Sharp; two brothers, Roy and Raymond Sharp; three sisters, Leora Wheeler, Lillie Eastin and Mildred Mervar; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

      He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, three sisters and a step-grandson.

      Funeral services were held at Summers-Kistler Funeral Home with burial in the Clay City Cemetery.

      Memorials may be made to the American Lung Association.
