  Decatur – Genevieve O. Newsome-Gowan, 96, of Decatur, passed away Sunday, August 21, 2016 in Decatur. Genevieve was born December 14, 1919, in Findlay, IL, the daughter of Fred and Ruth (Denier) Gordon. A hard working mother, Genevieve worked as a machinist at Borg Warner where she worked as a machinist. She was an active member of Covenant Methodist Church in Port Orange, FL, where she also served on many boards and committees. She is survived by her children: Arlene Enlow of FL, Maribelle “Ann” Vest of FL, Chris Vaughn of Decatur, and Gayle Gordon of FL; 12 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren; siblings: Doris Greene, John Gordon, Jack Gordon and Wayne Gordon; 2 step-daughters, and many step-grandchildren, step-great grandchildren and step-great-great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Genevieve was preceded in death by 3 husbands, 3 brothers, 3 sisters, and 1 step-son. Services to celebrate Genevieve’s life will be 2 pm, Tuesday, August 23, 2016, in Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home; visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in Fairlawn Cemetery.
