    • Alva E. Benson, 76, of Bradley, died Sunday, May 17, 1998 at Riverside Medical Center.

      Services were at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Clancy-Gernon Funeral Home in Bourbonnais. Burial was in the Kankakee Memorial Gardens. Visitation was from 4-6 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

      Benson was born Feb. 15, 1922 in Noble, the son of Everett and Eliza (Fulk) Benson. He married Sarah May Steury Jan. 21, 1952 in Lawrenceville.

      He was a veteran of WWII serving in the Army. He was a member of Bradley American Legion 766. He was a former employee of Uniroyal (Joliet Arsenal) and Sears in Meadowview.

      He enjoyed fishing and garage sales.

      He is survived by his wife; two sons, Larry Benson and his wife, Bernette, of Chehanse, and William Ray Benson and his wife Jean, of Kankakee; two daughters Linda Fritz and her husband, Edward, and Wilma May Hebert and her husband, Chester, all of Bradley; two sisters, Dorothy Real, of Lewistown and Beulah Taylor, of Mt. Erie; and six grandchildren.

      He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Richard Allen Benson, an infant sister and five brothers.
