  Olney Daily Mail obituary: John Herdes, 68, Noble, died in his home. Mr. Herdes was born Aug. 21, 1914, in Richland County, the son of Claude & Mamie Evans Herdes. He married Margaret Hasler October 13, 1934 in Springfield and she survives. He was a retired oil field worker for Murvin Oil Co. Survivors include two sons, bill & Robert; three daughters, Winnie Foerster, Alta Mary Lewis, Tamera Britz; a brother, C. J. Herdes; sisters Elizabeth Ivy, Ethel Carder & 14 grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; & two step-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, and two sisters. Funeral services were at Hosselton-Bookhout-Engelmeier Funeral Home in Noble with Rev. Larry Schnautz presiding. Burial was in North Freedom Cemetery.
