S/O Jonathan and Almira Holt Franklin, both of North Carolina. General Franklin came to Illinois in 1852 with Mr. Bray and his family and made his home with his uncle, John Franklin. He married Clara Elizabeth Dement in Lexington on Oct. 11, 1855. They had 3 children, 4 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
He was one of the first settlers of Colfax, Illinois where he went about 1880. He opened a general store and bought and shipped livestock.
