  Charles W. “C.W.” Hurd, 68, of Flora, died Thursday, May 6, 1993, at the Clay County Hospital, Flora. Mr. Hurd was born August 4, 1924, in Clay City, the son of Charles and Laura Lambert Hurd. He married Lorraine L. Steele in 1956. He was a heavy equipment operator, a WWII Army veteran, past (twice) commander of the Flora VFW Post, a member of the Flora American Legion, and Flora Moose Lodge. He was of the protestant faith. Surviving are four sons, Charles Hurd Jr., Gary Hurd, Larry Hurd, and Richard W. Steele; one daughter, Mrs. Roy (Laura Kay) McCain; three sisters, Juanita Farmer, Alice Johnson, and Mrs. Sam (Dorothy) Mink; fourteen grandchildren and one great grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and three sisters. Funeral services will be held at the Frank and Bright Funeral Home, Flora. Burial will in the Elmwood Cemetery with military rites.
