- James R. Atchason Sr., 79, formerly of 257 North Witt street, Decatur, died at 3 p.m. Wednesday in Kankakee. Mr. Atchason, a retired blacksmith, was born in Hoosier, Oct. 31, 1887, the son of A.L. and Julia McKinney Atchason. He had lived in Decatur 38 years.
James married Della Hagen in Sailor Springs in 1909; she died Feb. 6, 1966.
He leaves five sons; O.D. of Springfield, Alva L. of Champaign, Paul E., Lloyd O. and James Jr., all of Decatur; three daughters, Mrs. Virgil (Evelyn)Grady, Mrs. Charles (Juanita) Lefringhouse, both of Decatur and Mrs. John (Deloris) Grady of Champaign; two brothers, Andie and Roy, both of Louisville; sister, Mrs. Anna Gobel of Flora; 22 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
Burial will be in Graceland cemetery.

Note: I know the marker for James Riley Atchason shows 1888, but the date cannot be correct. It should be 10/15/1886, not 1888 because my grandmother was his sister and she was born two years after James Riley on 7/8/1888. Her name was Mary Elizabeth "Lizzie" Atchason and she was my grandmother.
