On Veterans' Day, 2005, the city of Flora, Illinois dedicated a memorial to all known Clay County, Illinois World War II Veterans.
Located on the south side of the city library, this is a copy of the brochure honoring that event.

- Lawrence P. Klingler, 80, of Olney, IL, formerly of Wendelin died June 9, 2004, at Burgin Manor in Olney.
Mr. Klingler was born July 20, 1923 in Clay County, the son of George and Minnie Schmitt Klingler. He married Georgia Iffert January 24, 1953.
He was a farmer, a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Olney, American Legion, VFW and Eagles.
Survivors include his wife; six sons, Paul L., Kenny, David, Patrick, Ronald, and Carl Klingler; a daughter, Amy Wagner; 20 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Preceding him in death were his parents and a sister, Dorothy.
Funeral services were held at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Wendeling with burial in the church cemetery.
Memorials to Hospice of Southeastern Illinois or Crossroads Cancer Center in Effingham.
