On Veterans' Day, 2005, the city of Flora, Illinois dedicated a memorial to all known Clay County, Illinois World War II Veterans.
Located on the south side of the city library, this is a copy of the brochure honoring that event.

- L. Arnie Cruse, 82, of Carmi passed away Saturday, November 20, 2010 at 1:30 am at Wabash Christian Retirement Center in Carmi. Arnie was born November 28, 1927 in Pinckneyville, IL the son of Lawrence and Ethel (Smith) Cruse. He married Wilma Joyce Blazier on September 15, 1950 and she preceded him in death on December 17, 2009. Arnie had worked in the oil field and at Babcock and Wilcox as a welder. He served his country in the Navy during World War II and was a lifetime member of the Carmi VFW Post #3851. Arnie is survived are two sons and daughters-in-law, Rick and Lynne Cruse of Norris City and Ron and Kim Cruse of Carmi; a brother, Raymond Cruse of Carmi; four grandchildren and their spouses, Vanessa and Jamie Sauls, Gretchen and Ken Stock, Robin and Joey Weyerbacher and Ronja Cruse; and five great-grandchildren, Zeke Cruse, Griffen and Madalyn Stock and Wade and Sydnee Sauls. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Donald Cruse. Funeral Services for L. Arnie Cruse, 82, of Carmi will be Tuesday, November 23, 2010 at 1:00 pm at Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi. Burial will be in the North Maple Ridge Cemetery in Carmi with military rites by Carmi VFW and American Legion. Friends may call at the Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi on Tuesday from 11:00 am until service time at 1:00 pm.
