- Jean Henry Bryant of Oxford, Iowa died at Pleasantview Care Center in Kalona.
He was born in Louisville, IL to Ray & Dessie Kistner Bryant.
He served in the Army during World War II, spending 2 1/2 years in the Asia/Pacific Theater. He married Eileen Shebetka May 2, 1942 in Oxford. He was a farmer & worked as a Johnson County Deputy Sheriff for 17 years, ending his career as head of the Civil Department. Jean was in the fifth class to attend the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy and his grandson, Chris, was in the 185th class.
He was a member of the Oxford Methodist Church, Hardin Township Trustee, Iowa Sheriff Association & was a lifetime member of the Oxford American Legion for nearly 65 years.
Jean is survived by his wife, children: JoAnne, Janet, Richard, Randy, Janelle, & Keith; brother Ray; 20 grandchildren; & 17 great-grandchildren.
Preceding him death were his parents, brothers (Oscar & twin Dean) sisters Leona Slagley & Dorothea McHenry.
Funeral services were held at Oxford United Methodist Church with Reverends Diane Townsley & Harry Imlay officiating. Burial was in Oxford Cemetery.
