Assigned to and trained with the 85th Chemical Mortar (4.2 Inch) Battalion. Departed the Continental U.S. on July 20, 1944 bound for The Asiatic-Pacific Theater of Operations. Participated in the Bismarck Archipelago, New Guinea, Luzon And Southern Philippines Campaigns, wherein he was wounded by enemy action. Earned the Purple Heart Medal, The Good Conduct Medal, The American Campaign Medal, The Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal with four bronze battle stars, The WWII Victory Medal and The Philippine Liberation Medal with two bronze battle stars. Honorably discharged from the Chemical Warfare Service as a Private First Class on December 24, 1945 at the Separation Center, Jefferson Barracks, Missouri.
