- Born in Germany in 1755. Came to America in early life and was a soldier in the revolutionary war. Participated in the battle of Gilford Court House, Cowpens, Eutaw Springs and was present at the surrendar of Cornwallis at Yorktown. Wounded at the battle of Cowpens by a saber cuts across the head. Served with distinction and honor in the war of 1812. Moved from North Carolina to Illinois in 1830. Ann, wife of Nicholas died in 1839.
