Notes |
- Berlin Pierce was born to Chauncey Pierce, presumably in Gibson County, Indiana, but possible in Worchester area of Massachusetts. He apprenticed as a blacksmith in Princeton during the 1850s. He then went to Visalia, California where he operated a blacksmith shop named "Birley and Pierce". (It is mentioned in a History of Tulare County). After the death of his brother John, Berlin came to Clay County and married his sister-in-law Julia. He helped her raise her children with John. Together they had two sons, Charles Marion (1868 1943) and Henry Burr (1870 1965). He lived at what is now 994 Bunchberry Road, Clay City, IL 62824.
