- Mary E. Caldwell Chaffin, 89, of Clay City, died at 1:20 a.m. Thursday, April 22, 2010, at her residence.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Friday at Summers-Kistler Funeral Home in Clay City. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home in Clay City with Doyle Williams officiating. Burial will be in Clay City Cemetery.
Mrs. Chaffin was born September 19, 1920, in Grayville, the daughter of Otto Monroe Swift and Essie Mae Culliver Swift. She married Charles Herbert Chaffin on May 28, 1977. He preceded her in death on March 28, 2004.
She was a homemaker. She was of the Christian faith.
Mrs. Chaffin is survived by her son, Herbert Wayne Chaffin and his wife, Carmen, of McKinney, Texas; daughter, Gloria June Jones and her husband, Steven, of Olney; daughter, Janet Sue Chaffin, of Clay City; five grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Jessie Burnett and Ruby; daughter-in-law, Sandra Morris; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Otto Monroe and Essie Mae Swift; stepfather, Albert Schmittler; husband, Charles Herbert Chaffin; son, Charles Robert Chaffin; granddaughter, Cynthia Denise Magnussen; three sisters; and two brothers.
