He was a retired farmer, member of the Clay City Methodist Church, Clay City Lions Club and Clay City Masonic Lodge. He was a retired volunteer fireman, past village board member of 24 years, served 18 years as mayor, and also served on the Clay City School Board, and was a board member of the Clay City Savings and Loan.
