- Enlisted at Chicago, Illinois, on May 17, 1944 to serve for the duration. Completed boot camp and trained in the special military qualification of Carburetor and Ignition Mechanic. Served abroad in the Asiatic-Pacific area from July 1, 1945 to August 9, 1946. Participated in the occupation of Japan from September 25, 1945 to July 7, 1946. Honorably discharged as a Corporal on August 14, 1946 at the Marine Separation Center, Great Lakes, Illinois. Earned the American Campaign Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, WWII Victory Medal, and the Marine version of the Navy Occupation Service Medal (Japan).
