John and his family moved within Cherokee territory over the years, often crossing state boundries which were irrelevant to the Cherokee. In 1831 he recieved premission from the Georgia gov. to remain in Union County with his Cherokee wife and 1/2 Cherokee children and not be removed (to Ok)

The Cherokee were one of the most warlike tribes, waging virtual genocide against other tribes. Their major wars against the whites were 1759-63 and 1776-82. This unnamed warrior would have fought in the 2nd of these conflicts.
